Face charts are used, among other things, to plan a makeup application, to communicate a look to the client, and/or provide continuity for a makeup artistry team.  Once a makeup artist learns the basic techniques for creating a face chart, they will not only add to their skill set, but will also find it gratifying to turn a one-dimensional piece of paper into a three-dimensional work of art!

Airbrush bridal makeup is here to stay. Learn how to navigate and grow your bridal business. Attendees will learn how to draft contracts, set rates, and complete a successful trial run. Then, get hands-on with our immersive TEMPTU airbrush training. Students will learn how to assemble and clean different airbrush systems. We will cover various airbrushing techniques, and how to choose the right products for your client.

Following the workshop, students will receive a TEMPTU Certificate of Completion!

Roshar Portfolio Building Workshop — August 25 & 26, 2019

International celebrity makeup artist, Roshar, demonstrates avant-garde/editorial makeup creations on Day 1. On Day 2, Roshar will be on site, directing the attendees’ photoshoot with Chicago professional photographer, Robert Beczarski.

Day 1 is a prerequisite for Day 2. Participants of Day 2 will receive all images of their work.

5 Step Guide: Cleaning Makeup Brushes
1. WET: Wet just the bristles of your makeup brushes under warm water. Try to avoid fully submerging the brush ferrule to prevent damage!
2. WASH: Add a small amount of SigMagic™Brushampoo™or mild brush cleanser to makeup brush bristles, swirl on the WASH texture of a Sigma brush cleaning gadget to deep clean the brush.
3. RINSE: Sweep the brush back and forth on the RINSE texture under running water until the water runs clear. Repeat steps 2 and 3 utilizing the REFINE and REFINE PLUS textures of your gadget for a maximum clean.
4. SQUEEZE: Gently squeeze brush bristles to remove excess water.
5. DRY: Place makeup brushes in the Dry’n Shape Tower® to quickly dry and reshape your brushes. If you haven’t got Sigma’s revolutionary tower, simply lay your brushes flat on a towel.

Be honest with yourself: when is the last time you checked the expiration dates on your makeup? Hopefully your answer is ‘within the last month’, especially if you’re a makeup artist. Old cosmetics break down over time and will harden or clump inside their containers. In the worst case scenarios, expired makeup can lead to breakouts and infections. To avoid these makeup mishaps, here are some easy ways to keep your cosmetics fresh and safe.

EXPIRATION DATES AND PAO

Checking the expiration dates on your makeup isn’t always easy. While some products will have an exact expiration date that lets you know when to toss it, regardless of whether it’s been used, most products will not. Instead, you will most likely find a PAO or Period After Opening expiration date. These labels (measured in months after opening) tell you how long your product stays fresh and safe to use, typically ranging from three months to two years. While liquids—like mascaras and eye liners—can expire in as little as three months, powders and lip products can last up to a year or more. For a full breakdown on products, check the guide below!

TOSS CLUMPY, SMELLY MAKEUP

If you can’t remember exactly when you first opened your product, the next best thing to do is trust your senses. If your makeup smells “off” or different than normal, throw it out. Check to see if your products are crusty, hardened, or clumping—those are all signs that your makeup is past the point of no return. Give special consideration to any products you take or use in hot or steamy weather, as those conditions can break down your makeup and store bacteria.

Even if your makeup is relatively new, it’s always a good idea to sanitize before each use. In the same way that we clean our brushes to keep them germ-free, it’s important to keep your makeup products sanitized as well. Misting sprays, like First Sanitizer, kill lingering bacteria on contact and keep your makeup safe for application. COSMETICS

Professional, sanitary makeup artists clean their cosmetics before after each use; it’s a practice everyone else should adopt as well. When all else fails, use disposable applicators and sponges! It is inexcusable for the pro makeup artist to use the same mascara on different people. Remember, every new coat of makeup should have a new applicator-no double-dipping and you will avoid cross- contamination.
