Color Theory in Flesh Tone with Terri Tomlinson
March 2nd, 2020

Color Theory in Flesh Tone is a hands-on workshop that translates color theory into the language of makeup. One of the greatest tools a makeup artist has is color theory. Being able to actively work and use the principles of color theory during application makes every artist stronger and more efficient.

In this workshop we revisit the basics of Color Theory and the principles of color used in makeup application. Learn to translate color into flesh tone and neutral using The Flesh Tone Color Wheel™ and determine skin tone, highlight, contour and correction. See how using color theory affects every color choice from foundation, to eyeshadow and lip. In the hands-on portion we build skill and train the eye using The Flesh Tone Color Wheel™ and a color theory makeup palette to create, mix and adjust foundations, highlight, bronzer, contour, and corrective colors followed by eye, cheek and lip.

Stainless steel palettes and palette knives are non-porous, which makes them easy to sanitize, and safely apply makeup without double-dipping or cross contamination.

Your kit comes complete with all the tools you’ll need to complete a full face of makeup including a lash curler, sharpener, and grooming scissors. All kits come stocked with enough makeup to last the entire certificate program and beyond, but if you ever want to restock or try new products, our Pro Shop is conveniently located on site!

Blessons Scholarships for Women are funded by donations and are unique and may often function as the only source of support for women where no other granting and scholarship organizations may exist or are accessible in it’s nature where grade point average is NOT a deciding factor. They give women the resources to realize their educational goals to use the funds in whatever way that helps them most such as: books, tuition, on-campus health insurance, cafeteria, computer labs and transportation.

The Chade Foundation Scholarships Program is offering financial aid to incoming and current college or graduate school students. In order to show our gratitude and support to the Chicagoland community, the company established Chade Foundation in 2007. We invite all eligible students to apply for our 10th Annual Scholarship Awards.

CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS
FOR COSMETOLOGISTS & ESTHETICIANS

Every two years, cosmetologists and estheticians must fulfill between 10 to 14 hours of Continuing Education to keep their license active under the Illinois Barber Act. While half of the required hours can be completed online, the other half must be earned in the classroom. At Make Up First, most of our courses and workshops are approved for Continuing Education Hours, and are suitable for all skill levels— from two hour, demo-only workshops to immersive, hands-on master courses.

Check out some of our upcoming workshops below!

Holiday Gift Guide

For Mom

Whether your mom is a makeup master, or someone who goes au natural, rejuvenating masks are the ultimate gift. Hydrating masks, like The Pastel Shop’s Aloe Vera and Charcoal Mask, help replenish essential vitamins and moisture that your skin craves, while absorbing oil and minimizing pores. And at just $3 a mask, you can buy one for yourself too.! Who doesn’t love family bonding?

Make sure to pair your gift with a moisturizing lotion for daily use, like Embryolisse’s Lait-Creme Concentre + Gloss, which functions as a primer and nourishing moisturizer in the tube, and has a gloss under the cap. Multi-use products make a perfect pair with moms who don’t fuss around with a ton of different brands. For the mom who is all-natural, ATTN! Beauty’s No-Rinse Makeup Remover Foam is a gentle way to remove makeup at the end of the day, even for those with sensitive skin!

For the Makeup Artist

What do you get someone who has everything? Makeup artists can be particular about the products they use, but there are still great gifts available in the makeup section. Organization options, like a brush tube or artist backpack, can help corral an artist’s ever-growing makeup collection.

Also consider choosing a gift that can expand their skill set. This starter pack from TEMPTU includes everything you need to get started with airbrush makeup. For the ultimate combo, give the gift of education and set them up with an airbrush workshop to perfect their technique!

For the One Who is Always On the Go

Busy travelers have some very unique makeup needs. Portable items are a plus, as well as items that make life easier. The Riki Cutie mirror is the perfect solution for applying your makeup in a pinch—like in the back of a cab.

When it’s time to pack up, the Sigma Spa Glove makes cleaning your brushes a breeze, while the MakeUp Eraser is a reusable option for removing any type of makeup with just water!

For the One Who Doesn’t Really Wear Makeup

It’s true: some people don’t use much makeup, but skin products are still a necessity, and there are products that make applying makeup easy.

Embryolisse’s CC Cream is a moisturizing skin enhancer that works on any skin tone to fill in fine lines, plump the face, and renew the skin. Senna’s Form-A-Brow makes finding and executing the perfect brow easy for anyone. Grab Kevyn Aucoin’s The Volume Mascara to effortlessly create gorgeous, dramatic lashes that last all day.

For the Adventurous

Go with something fun for your friend who is always expanding their horizons. If bold, interesting, or dramatic looks sound about right, look no further. Stilazzi’s Darkroom Eyeshadow Palette is filled with dazzling colors and tones developed by professional makeup artist, Jordan Liberty. For the best in attention-grabbing lip shades, go with MODELROCK’s Liquid Last Matte Lipstick.
